Springfield, MO: Civil War Battlefield and Cemetery

This place was pretty cool. I wish we had been able to spend an entire day here! There were so many beautiful birds, trees, flowers… The battle sites were full of educational, historical facts, and the air, my god THE AIR, was the cleanest I experienced during the 4 days we spent in Missouri.

I highly recommend visiting both the cemetery and the battlefield- the cemetery had graves dating back to the early 19th century (I’m sure there were older ones but those were the oldest we found), and also included veterans graves for solders from WWII, Iraq, and over 500 graves of soldiers from the Civil War. It was very awe inspiring to walk among the graves of so many soldiers and to visit the deteriorating (and often illegible) grave sites of people who passed on centuries ago.
